Monbulk Official Past Members Club
Hi All,
Over many years many of you have discussed trying to formalise a Coterie Group for Monbulk Sporting Clubs. There have been several that have been started & slowly they have gradually died away or have been amalgamated into the clubs workings. I have sounded out several of you & tried to find out ideas that would work & what hasn't in the past.
It also raised its head again as a great way to gather momentum for the potential Redevelopment of Monbulk Rec Reserve / Master Plan.
The Aim behind an official Coterie group is for a range of reasons but its main focus would be to bring past players, supporters, sponsors together & linked back to Monbulk Sporting Club. It would be for Men & Women that have played any role in making Monbulk Sporting Clubs what they are today.
You see I keep mentioning "Monbulk Sporting Club" Coterie group. Many officials, supporters & players have served both the Football & Cricket club over the years & a combined effort can benefit both tenants.
How could this work? I hear you saying - throughout the year multiple events / functions would be held by the Coterie group to raise money for specific needs / sponsorship of each of the Tenants. A small working committee (Pres, Sec, Tres, 2x gen comm) would help to decide on the distribution of funds raised.
Within the Coterie Group - sub groups could be formed: Ladies Auxiliary, Golf, Fishing, Social Bowls, Darts etc. These groups would then run functions / fundraisers throughout the year separate to the current social events the tenants run. The idea is to use the Sporting Club as the conduit to raise extra money in different ways & different events to a wider group of people that are not being utilised in the fund raising currently. Some form of Membership / subscription would be involved - but this would also allow social membership to the respective sporting club.
Some ideas have been: Golf challenge days, Fishing trips / competitions, Shopping tours, Tuppaware nights, Lawn Bowls Tournament, Dinner Events, Movie Nights, Car Rally, Comedy / Memorabilia nights, VIP days at the AFL / Cricket / Horseracing, Melbourne Cup Day, AFL Grand Final.
The reunions that have been organised by both sporting clubs over the last couple of years highlighted the large amount of business and professional people that have a great love for the Monbulk Sporting Clubs. This Coterie group will hopefully give them an opportunity and a desire to be more involved with the Club.
The only real qualification for membership is to be a one-eyed Monbulk supporter!
Other objectives for the Coterie group could be:
" Young player development through a Player Development Fund
" Infrastructure Funding
" Annual Black Tie Ball
" Aid in sponsorship of particular recruits
" Reunions: Assist in helping the various clubs
Please give me your ideas & feedback - no need to copy everybody. I plan on organising an informal meeting in the coming month to try open this up for discussion & try to formalise a working committee.
Lastly ideas on a Name would be good, early suggestions have been:
The Hawkers, Maroon & Gold Club, The Monbulkians, Old Monbulkians, Old Hawkers
